Psychotherapy and My Approach

I believe we all want to have a meaningful life. There are times when depression, anxiety or maybe alcohol and drugs are in our way of achieving our goals. Collaboratively as psychotherapist and client we work to discover what brings joy and meaning to your life. I like to think of psychotherapy as that team that supports elite athletes to reach peak performance. In this partnership we learn about ourselves, uncover the stumbling blocks and clarify the views and beliefs that may be holding us back.

Our beliefs about ourselves were formed in childhood, where we learned about ourselves from our parents, caretakers, school, and society. Often the messages we received were not positive or more often about the other person and their struggles instead of reflections of who we are. I see my job as helping tease out those beliefs you have about yourself, their origins and if they are true or not. Most of these beliefs came from our parents and in identifying these beliefs I don’t see it as blame but as accountability. These views of ourselves were given to us and not always accurate, it is important to learn who we really are. I know reaching out to anyone, especially making that call to a therapist can be very frightening and it can also be the first step on a very rewarding journey.

Through my years of experience I have worked with so many different issues and concerns and these are some of my areas of expertise; addiction treatment, drug & alcohol abuse, sex addiction and eating disorders, relapse and relapse prevention, working with adults with childhood traumacodependency(ACA) adult children of alcoholicsdepressionanxietystress, grief and loss, contemporary psychoanalysis, relationship issues, infidelity, marital and couples counseling, pre-marital counseling, setting boundariescommunication skills and those single and wanting a relationship and people who are seeking to make a change in their life.

Please look around and contact me with questions, comments or to make an appointment.
